I started out binding quilts years ago with the wrong sides together (it was dubbed "birthing a quilt" by Elinor...something!) The edges did not hold up well! Bias cut/folded binding is a little more trouble but in the end well worth practicing! I was really shocked by how badly the edges wore out esp. quilts that got lots of use/ washed fairly often.
